NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Houston Christian 3-1 on Saturday, winning 25-19, 28-26, 23-25, 25-21. SFA hit .230 with nine total blocks while holding HCU to a .180 hitting percentage.

SFA moved in front during a back-and-forth start, turning a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead on a Huskies service error, a Kyanna Creecy kill and a Molly Cravens-Creecy block. After HCU stayed within 8-7, SFA created separation with an Avery Koonsen kill and two HCU attack errors to reach 11-7, then pushed the margin to 17-11 with points that included a Katherine Holtman kill, another Cravens-Creecy block and Koonsen kill. HCU continued to side out enough to keep the set from getting away, pulling within 18-15 and later 22-19, but SFA answered each time and closed the set with a Cravens kill, a Creecy kill and a Cravens-Creecy block for a 25-19 win.

HCU broke from a 7-5 edge to an 11-5 lead in the second set, with a four-point stretch. SFA worked back behind kills from Caroline Kahle, Koonsen, Jordan Henderson and Holtman, and Aniston Collins served an ace to pull the Ladyjacks within 17-16 before SFA tied it at 19-19. Kahle's kill gave SFA a 21-20 lead, but HCU answered and later reached set point three times at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25. SFA erased the last of those on a service error, moved in front on Brinkley Reeves' ace and finished the set 28-26 when Creecy and Kahle combined on the block.

SFA built a 5-0 lead to open the third set, getting kills from Henderson, Koonsen and Holtman before a Holtman-Henderson block contributed to the early run. HCU worked back to tie the set at 7-7 and later scored five straight points from a 9-9 tie to move ahead 14-9, but SFA cut the deficit to 14-12 with Koonsen kill, a Henderson kill and a HCU attack error. SFA pulled even at 16-16, and after the Huskies went back in front, Holtman tied it at 17-17 before Lara Gilardi's kill and a Madi Zorn ace pushed SFA ahead 19-17. HCU tied the set at 19-19, moved in front 23-21 on consecutive kills, and after SFA tied it again at 23-23, the visitors took the final two points to win the set 25-23.

The fourth set stayed tight early, with SFA getting kills from Holtman, Kahle, Koonsen and Cravens while HCU twice moved in front by one. A service error tied the set at 9-9, and SFA used a Henderson kill and back-to-back HCU attack errors to move ahead 12-9. HCU got back within 14-13 and later tied it at 17-17, but SFA answered with Koonsen kill and a block by Cravens and Henderson for a 19-17 edge. SFA reached 23-19 on kills by Holtman and Kahle, and after HCU closed to 23-21, Henderson's kill created set point before Brinkley Reeves' ace finished the 25-21 set.
