LAKE CHARLES, La. - Senior Chaquita Dilworth (Temple, Texas) scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks to a 85-54 victory Monday night over McNeese State at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, La. The Ladyjacks are now 11-5 overall and 8-1 in the Southland Conference.
SFA jumped out to an 8-0 lead behind its smothering defense, led by seniors Nicole Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) and Dilworth who recorded four steals each. Guild also added 11 points, going 3-of-7 from outside the three-point arc. The Ladyjacks kept the pressure on McNeese State, as they upped their advantage to 26-7 over the Cowgirls with 12 minutes and nine seconds remaining in the first-half. The Ladyjacks cruised to a season-high 48 points after the first 20 minutes of the game, leading McNeese State, 48-20, at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half as SFA pushed its lead to as many as 34 points in the second half. The Cowgirls went on a short run in the second half to cut the SFA advantage to 24 points, behind Shanel Handy's 15 points and four assists. But Ladyjacks put the game away behind senior Jessica Guild's 17-point, five-assist performance. Junior Amy Collins (San Antonio, Texas) scored in double figures for the third consecutive game with her 13-point, seven-rebound performance.
The Ladyjacks continue their three-game conference road swing in San Antonio, Texas Saturday, against Texas-San Antonio. The game is slated to tipoff at 2 p.m., from the Convocation Center.
