NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team won its second-straight game, and sixth consecutive at the William R. Johnson Coliseum Monday night, when it knocked off Lamar, 79-56. The Ladyjacks are 10-5 overall and 7-1 in Southland Conference play.
It was the Ladyjacks smothering defense again that gave them the advantage as they forced 28 Cardinal turnovers. The Ladyjacks opened the game with a 23-9 run over the first nine minutes and 20 seconds of the game, led by junior Nathesia Wright's (Arlington, Texas) season-high 24 points and seven rebounds. Senior Chaquita Dilworth (Temple, Texas) added 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds as SFA cruised into halftime with a 39-26 lead.
Lamar opened the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the Ladyjack advantage to six points, 39-33, led by Eva Christian's 21-point, seven-rebound performance. But Lamar would get no closer as SFA junior Amy Collins (San Antonio, Texas) recorded a career-high 20 points and pulled down six rebounds. It was the second consecutive game that Collins set a career-high in points (18 points vs. Sam Houston State, Jan. 12).
The Ladyjacks return to action Monday night in Lake Charles, La., to take on McNeese State. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m., from Burton Coliseum.
