Stephen F. Austin head softball coach Jennifer Poulsen announced today the signing of Meryl McGuire to a scholarship to play softball, and continue her education at the university this fall.
"Meryl McGuire is a great addition to our team. I am very excited about adding Meryl to the players we already have on campus. She brings with her to SFA, two years of good junior college experience from California and should add maturity and talent to our roster," said Poulsen.
McGuire, a 5-4 middle infielder from Rio Linda, California, played the past two seasons at Cosumnes River College for coach Cheri LaDue in the Bay valley Conference. McGuire led her team in hitting as a sophomore last season, and will also bring the element of speed to the Ladyjack lineup as an accomplished base-stealer.
She was named her team's Offensive and Defensive MVP as a freshman in 2000, and was also the Offensive MVP of the team in 2001.
The 1999 graduate of Rio Linda High School in rio Linda, California was a two sport letterwinner, earning letters in both softball and volleyball as a prep player.
The Ladyjacks open fall workouts on October 15.
