Poulsen named New Softball Coach At SFA

Stephen F. Austin State University athletic director Steve McCarty announced today the hiring of Jennifer Poulsen as head softball coach at the university. Poulsen takes over for Ruth Wright who resigned her position following the 2001 season.
"I am extremely happy to announce that Jennifer Poulsen is joining the Stephen F. Austin family. Coach Poulsen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with her as she assumes the duties of guiding the Ladyjack softball program to the next level," said McCarty.
Poulsen comes to SFA after spending the past season as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Prior to her one season at UAB, Poulsen worked two years as a coach for the Akron Pacers of the Women's Professional Softball League. The 1995 graduate of Cal State Sacramento, spent the 1999-2000 season as an assistant in Akron before taking over as the head coach prior to the start of the 2000-2001 year.
She spent four seasons as the head softball coach at Odessa Permian High School from 1996-1999, compiling an overall record of 53-29. During her stay, she became the first coach to claim a playoff berth in softball, and also was the first to have a player make an appearance in the state all-star game.
Poulsen played high school softball in California and also played for two seasons at Cosumnes River College, earning All-Conference honors in both her freshman and sophomore seasons. She also spent two seasons at Cal State - Hayward to finish her playing career.
Coach Poulsen begins work next month.
