The Ladyjack softball team split their first two games of the University of Tennessee tournament Fridnay afternoon in Knosville. SFA defeated Centenary behind the pitching of Devin Cobb. Cobb made her first pitching appearance in about three weeks, in picking up the win. Cobb did not allow a run while giving up three hits in four innings of work. Kym Kling came on in relief to nail down the victory for SFA.
Cobb was also 2-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Sascha Taylor also went 2-3 on the afternoon with a pair of runs scored. The six runs in the game marked the most runs for the Ladyjack offense since a 12-run outburst two weeks agao against SLU.
In game two Friday afternoon, the University of Tennessee used two first inning home runs to spark themselves to an 8-6 win over SFA. The Lady Vols jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on the strength of a thre run home run off the bat of Melissa Radley, then a solo shot from Hannah Low later in the inning.
SFA cut the lead to 4-3 going into the bottom of the third inning, but Tennessee used three SFA errors in the bottom of the third inning to score four more runs and pad their lead back to 8-3. The Ladyjacks threatened late in the game, but came up short, 8-6.
Angela Froboese was 2-2 with two runs scored and an RBI in the second game. She also walked twice. Kym Kling also went 2-4 with three RBIs against Tennessee.
Morgan Tolleson was charged with the loss, and falls to 5-7 on the year.
