Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head basketball coach Lee Ann Riley announced today the addition of Pennee Hall to the Ladyjack basketball coaching staff.
"I am extremely excited about Pennee becoming part of the staff. She has been a winner on every level, as both a player and a coach. As a player, she was part of a team that won a national championship, and as a coach, she has led her team to a state title. She is one of the top coaches among the Texas high school coaching ranks, and she knows what it takes to win championships. Her knowledge of the game, and what it takes to be successful, are just some of the things that Pennee will add to the Ladyjack basketball program," said Riley.
Hall joins the SFA staff after spending the past nine seasons as the head women's basketball coach at Barbers Hill High School. During that nine year span, Hall led Barbers Hill to nine straight playoff seasons and an overall record of 282-51. Her teams at Barbers Hill posted a 102-0 record in district play during her career. The Eagles advanced to the state finals in Austin on two separate occasions, winning the state title in 1997, with a 37-4 record.
The University of Texas graduate was named the TGCA Coach of the Year following her state title in 1997. Hall also holds a masters degree in education from Stephen F. Austin.
Prior to her stay at Barbers Hill, Hall also made head coaching stops at Dayton and San Antonio Clark High Schools, posting an overall head coaching record of 313-102.
As a collegiate athlete, Hall played two seasons as a member of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters, before transferring to the University of Texas prior to the 1985-86 season. In a five year span, Hall was a member of three final four teams and one national champion. Hall was a member of a Final Four team in 1985 from Louisiana Tech, then moved on to the University of Texas in 1986. The Lady Longhorns posted an undefeated season in 1986 en route to a national championship, then followed with another Final Four appearance in 1987.
Hall also earned the Louisiana Tech Scholastic Award for Academic Excellence in 1985 and was a two-time winner of the University of Texas Scholar Athlete Award as a member of the Longhorns basketball team.
As a high school standout at Barbers Hill, Hall helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back state titles in 1982 and 1983.
Hall will spend the spring assisting Riley in evaluating talent and potential recruits for the Ladyjack basketball program.
