Ladyjacks Outhustle Southwest Texas SFA at .500 for the first time this season
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team had little difficulty in its Southland Conference opener Thursday night against Southwest Texas. SFA beat the Bobcats, 79-50. The Ladyjacks are now 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the SLC.
The game was tied at nine with 14 minutes, 44 seconds remaining in the first half when SFA went on a 10-0 run. The Ladyjacks were never seriously challenged from that point on. The Ladyjacks used a stifling defense, forcing 30 turnovers, and spread out the scoring to beat SWT. The Ladyjacks had five players that recorded double-figure points, led by senior Jessica Guild's (Flower Mound, Texas) 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Senior Chaquita Dilworth (Temple, Texas) and freshmen Andrea Everline (Sugarland, Texas) and Michelle Hagan (Houston, Texas) each added 14 points. Hagan was a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor and added five rebounds. Junior Nathesia Wright (Arlington, Texas) added 12 points and four rebounds despite being plagued by foul trouble.
Kendall Arant led the Bobcats with 15 points. Teammate Christie Brown recorded a game-high 11 rebounds.
SFA returns to action Saturday to take on Texas-San Antonio. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Fans who donate a toy will receive free admission to the game.
