NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team (2-4) will open its 2001-02 home schedule Sunday against Arizona. Ladyjack fans that bring a canned-food item to the game will receive a free general admission ticket.
This season is the third consecutive season the SFA Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be sponsoring the canned-food drive. The donations are being gathered for local charities and food banks to help less fortunate families throughout the holiday season.
"We will collect the can food donations and distribute them among the local charities," said assistant athletic director for student services Darren Fort. "In the past we have donated to such charities as the Harvest House, the women's shelter as well as on of the churches here in town. There will be a table at the front door where fans can drop off their donation. The programs has grown over the past couple of years and we would like to continue to see it grow this season."
The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
