CenturyTel Shot of the Century Contest Begins Saturday

PLANO, Texas ~ Students at Southland Conference member institutions will have a chance at a "CenturyTel Shot of the Century" during upcoming basketball games scheduled at their respective universities.
The "CenturyTel Shot of the Century" halftime contest will allow one full-time undergraduate student at each of the Southland Conference's 11 universities to take one shot from anywhere beyond the half-court line. Through the financial support of CenturyTel, each student who successfully makes a shot will be entitled to the cost of in-state, undergraduate, full-time tuition for the fall and spring semesters of the 2001-2002 academic year.
Northwestern State University will play host to first "Shot of the Century" contest Saturday.
The "Shot of the Century" contest was created to develop an awareness of CenturyTel,s corporate involvement with the Southland Conference and its sponsorship of the Conference,s basketball tournament.
For the seventh consecutive year, CenturyTel, Inc., will serve as the title sponsor of the CenturyTel Classic, the postseason basketball tournament of the Southland Conference.
The CenturyTel Classic, scheduled for March 6-10, showcases the top eight men's and women's teams in the final regular-season Southland standings. The newly-opened CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, La., will host the Southland's prelude to March Madness.
The 16-team, 14-game Classic will consist of first-round games being played on campuses March 6. Women's semifinals are March 8 with the men's semifinals scheduled for March 9. Championship games are March 10 with those winners advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
