Ladyjacks Named No. 24 In Poll

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin State University Ladyjack basketball team has been ranked 24 in the nation in the "2000-2001 Early Bird Top 50" poll. This poll was compiled and released by the staff at Womens College Hoops.com.
The Ladyjacks finished the 1999-2000 season 28-4 overall and 17-1 in conference play as the Southland Conference Champions. At the NCAA 2000 Eastern Sub-Regional Tournament in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the number eleven seeded Ladyjacks defeated the number six seeded Xavier 73-72. This left the Ladyjacks facing the number three seeded Louisiana State University Lady Tigers, where they were only defeated 57-45.
Featured in the article were twin guards, Jessica and Nicole Guild. The sisters came to Stephen F. Austin this fall from Tyler Junior College.
While at Tyler Junior College, Jessica Guild was named a First Team Kodak All-American, First Team NJCAA All-American, a Co-MVP of the NJCAA National Tournament, the Region XIV Co-Freshman of the Year, a two-time All-Region team member and an All-Conference Academic team member.
"Jessica is one of the top junior college guards in the nation. She can shoot it, handle it and run a team. Her quickness and basketball skills make her a great potential player in our pressing-up tempo offense," said SFA Head Coach Royce Chadwick.
Nicole Guild was named a Co-MVP of the NJCAA National Tournament, Region XIV All-Conference team member and an Academic All-Conference team member.
"Nicole is a great guard with exceptional quickness and outstanding basketball skill. She has played for many years in a run and jump system, which prepares her for our style of play. She will be an impact player for our team," said Chadwick.
"We are very excited to be included in the "Early Bird Top 50 Poll". This will be a hard reputation to live-up to, but I feel comfortable our team can get the job done," said Chadwick.
