ABILENE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball program won two matches to begin their time at the Wildcat Classic hosted by ACU.

GAME 1: SFA 3, PVAMU 0

Stephen F. Austin defeated Prairie View 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-12) on Friday. SFA hit .373 with 44 kills while holding the Panthers to a .140 hitting percentage.

The Panthers built the first separation of the opening set, moving ahead 7-5. SFA answered with eight straight points, tying the set at 7-7 before a Katherine Holtman kill put SFA in front, and Avery Koonsen delivered four kills during the run to make it 13-7. The teams traded points from there until SFA pushed the margin to 17-9, and after PVAMU scored three straight, Koonsen served back-to-back aces to help SFA move ahead 20-12. SFA finished the set with late kills from Molly Cravens, Holtman and Kennedy Jones, then closed the 25-15 win on a Jordan Henderson block.

After the Panthers scored three straight points to move ahead 6-5, SFA answered with a Holtman kill to tie the set and took the lead on Koonsen's kill. The run continued with another Holtman kill, a PVAMU attack error, Koonsen's second kill of the stretch, and Holtman's finish from Caroline Kahle for an 11-6 lead. The Panthers later cut the margin to 15-12, but SFA took seven of the next eight rallies, including an Aniston Collins service ace and kills from Holtman, Jones, Henderson and Koonsen, to stretch the lead to 22-13. Koonsen supplied the final two SFA points with kills to close the set 25-15.

After PVAMU opened the third set with two kills, SFA answered with five straight points, getting a Cravens kill, two Koonsen service aces, and a Kyanna Creecy kill to move ahead 5-2. The Panthers cut the margin to 10-8 on an SFA service error, a D'Mya Hill kill, and a block, but SFA followed with six consecutive points, including kills by Henderson and Collins and a Jones ace, to lead 16-8. Holtman and Henderson added kills as SFA pushed the advantage to 19-9, and Koonsen helped extend the set to 23-10 with a kill before back-to-back PVAMU attack errors. Koonsen put SFA at set point with another kill at 24-11, and a Panthers service error closed the 25-12 set win.

GAME 2: SFA 3, Louisiana Tech 1

Stephen F. Austin defeated Louisiana Tech 3-1 (28-26, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18) on Friday. After the teams split the first two sets, SFA used a 9-0 run in the third set to move back in front and finished the match with 63 kills.

SFA moved in front 5-1 in the opening set behind early kills from Molly Cravens, Kyanna Creecy, and Kennedy Jones, but the Bulldogs tied it at 6-6 on Megan Cooley's kill. Katherine Holtman and Avery Koonsen helped SFA build the lead back to 11-7, and Jones later served an ace for an 18-16 edge before the Bulldogs moved ahead 21-19. The Bulldogs reached 23-20 and later held set point at 24-22, but Cravens and Creecy had kills around a Koonsen ace before Cambry Saul served consecutive aces to put SFA ahead 25-24. After the Bulldogs retook a 26-25 lead, SFA closed the set on a Bulldogs service error, a Bulldog attack error, and Koonsen's kill for a 28-26 win.

In the second set, SFA found themselves trailing 8-5 early. However, they fought back as Koonsen and Creecy combined on a block, and Cravens tied the set at 8-8 with a kill from Madi Zorn, contributing to Zorn surpassing 1,000 career assists in this match. The set remained closely contested, with both teams exchanging points. Despite SFA's efforts to maintain momentum with contributions from their key players, the Bulldogs managed to edge out a win, taking the set 25-23.

SFA held a narrow edge through the early portion of the third set, getting kills from Koonsen, Cravens, and Holtman while the Bulldogs stayed within 10-9 on Megan Cooley's kill. Cravens answered with a kill to start a nine-point SFA run, and Saul served the next eight points as SFA moved to 19-9 behind kills from Holtman and Jones, two service aces from Saul who set a new career high, and Bulldog errors. The Bulldogs stopped the run and later pulled to 19-12, but Holtman kills helped SFA keep separation before Koonsen's kill made it 23-16 and Cravens put SFA at set point, 24-16. The Bulldogs scored four straight points to get within 24-20, but SFA closed the set on a block by Creecy and Cravens for a 25-20 win.

The Bulldogs opened the fourth set with four straight points, but SFA answered with kills from Koonsen and Cravens and back-to-back blocks involving Cravens and Creecy to tie it at 4-4. After the teams traded points to 7-7, Holtman put SFA back in front, Jones added a service ace, and SFA pushed the lead to 12-8 on a Jordan Henderson block and another Koonsen kill. SFA kept separation through the middle of the set, with Holtman, Koonsen, and Cravens each adding kills as the lead reached 19-13. Cravens delivered three late kills, including the final point, as SFA closed the set 25-18. The team finished with a hitting percentage of .262.
