Avery graduated from Glenda Dawson High School and played club volleyball for Houston Stellar with current teammate, Erin Goodson. She was named Newcomer of the Year, MVP and was named to the First Team All-Greater Houston 6A team, First Team All-District, and All-State 6A. Throughout her high school career she has recorded over 1,000 kills while averaging around 3.0 kills per set while also adding pressure from the service line with 115 aces. With Houston Stellar she was awarded MVP and the Golden Jersey Award. Avery was also named an AVCA Winners Circle recipient and was named to the All-Tournament team at USAV Nationals.
