Ladyjacks earn one first-place vote ahead of 2026 campaign
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA Ladyjacks Soccer team has been selected fifth in the 2026 Southland Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, earning one first-place vote as the program prepares for its second season under Head Coach Ashley Whittemore.
The Southland Conference preseason poll is voted on by either an institution's head coach or sports information director, with one vote per school. Voters rank the predicted order of regular-season finish, excluding their own institution. The 2026 Southland Conference Women's Soccer Championship is scheduled for November 10-15 in Commerce, Texas.
Whittemore guided the Ladyjacks to an 8-4-10 record in her first season at the helm, and SFA enters 2026 with a roster featuring 12 returners, 10 transfers and six newcomers as the Ladyjacks look to take another step forward this fall.
Leading the returning group are Sawyer Kohutek and Sydney Williams. Kohutek earned Second Team All-Southland Conference honors in 2024, while Williams was named Second Team All-Southland Conference in 2025 and earned Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors during the season. Their experience and leadership will be key as SFA looks to compete near the top of the conference standings.
Fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2026 Ladyjacks in action during the Purple and White Scrimmage on Saturday, August 1, at 6:00 p.m. at the Chopping Block. Admission is free for all fans.
SFA officially opens the 2026 campaign on Thursday, August 13, when the Ladyjacks host Sul Ross State at 11:00 a.m. at the Chopping Block. The matchup marks the first meeting in program history between the two programs.
