Chapelle nets two as musser sets career single-game high in saves

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin soccer team lost to Northwestern State 4-3 on Sunday at the Chopping Block. SFA was limited to just 10 shots, including five on goal, while Brandie Musser made 10 saves against 25 NSU shots, setting a new career-high.

The Ladyjacks opened the scoring first in the match with a goal from Carlie Thurmond just under the 10-minute mark. Platt picked up the assist on the goal as SFA moved ahead 1-0. The Lady Demons responded with a goal 10 minutes later, with Bonnie Miller leveling the score at 1-1. SFA gained a late offensive spark and moved back in front just moments before halftime, with Alyce Chappelle scoring at 44:29 to make it 2-1. Brandie Musser made three saves during a Lady Demons push before Bonnie Miller tied it at 18:11 and went into the half with five saves.

Bonnie Miller once again leveled the score at 2-2 to open up the second half, and the Ladyjacks scored at 60:18. The Ladyjacks moved back in front on Chappelle's goal at 68:39, but NSU answered at 72:38 and added the go-ahead goal at 84:57 to give SFA the 4-3 loss.

Chappelle scored twice on two shots on goal and finished with four points. Thurmond added a goal on her lone shot. Platt recorded an assist and took two shots. Musser finished with 10 saves, making five in each half.

SFA moved to 4-8-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play. NSU improve to 5-5-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.

SERIES HISTORY
SFA still holds the advantage in the series with a 23-9-6 record in the all-time series. The Ladyjacks move to a 11-6-3 record against NSU at the Chopping Block. Since 2014, the teams have met 11 times, with the Ladyjacks now at 6-3-2.

UP NEXT
SFA opens October with a rematch of the 2025 Southland Conference Tournament Championship at HCU on October 1. The Ladyjacks and Huskies will meet in Houston in the 20th all-time matchup, with HCU claiming the most recent matchup in the 2025 SLC Tournament. SFA still holds a 13-6 advantage in the all-time series over HCU.
