First-year Lumberjack among the top 100 shortstops honored with inclusion
OVERLAND PARK, KAN. – Stephen F. Austin senior shortstop Rodric Black has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Year Watch List as announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Wednesday.
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Black, in his first season for the Lumberjacks after transferring in from West Texas A&M, has played in ten of SFA's 13 games making seven starts. The Fort Worth, Texas native is slashing .308/.400/.385 with eight hits and four walks to go along with four RBI and six runs scored. He is a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base opportunities this season.
Black is one of three Southland Conference shortstops to make the list joining Nico DeFazio of Houston Christian and A.J. Taylor of Lamar.
