Seven-Run Sixth Gives Jacks Sunday’s Finale, Series Split

SFA improves to 7-2 overall with 11-3 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to split series after dropping first two games
PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Nine runs across the fifth, sixth and seventh innings highlighted by a seven-run sixth propelled Stephen F. Austin past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 11-5 on Sunday afternoon from Torii Hunter Baseball Complex. The win gives the Jacks the series split and improves SFA's program-best start to 7-2.
In the profitable sixth, the Lumberjacks sent a dozen batters to the plate and pushed across seven runs with two outs on only four hits in the frame: a lead-off single by Julian Swift, a two-out double by Ethan Pena, a bunt single by Rodric Black to load the bases and a two-run single from Mark Henning.
The frame was powered by six walks with Juan Cantua, Cermodrick Bland, Jhett Creel and Swift all drawing run-plating free passes as the Golden Lions used five arms in the inning. Cantua's walk plated two, one via RBI and the second coming across as Pena beat the throw back to the plate for the second run in the inning. Black plated the final run of the afternoon for the Jacks in the pre-stretch seventh as an infield single scored Cooper Schneider.
SFA wasted no time in the finale as Bland led off the top half of the first with a triple into right center field and following a walk to Creel to put Jacks at the corners, Swift doubled through the left side to plate Bland for the game's first run. With two outs, an RBI ground out off the bat of Pena scored Creel to give SFA starter Nate Vidlak a 2-0 advantage.
Vidlak tossed 3.0 innings with the Lions grabbing the lead at 3-2 through three. Vidlak struck out four before giving way to the bullpen which sent five arms to the hill in relief. Andrew Wenske (1.0 IP, 0 H, 2 BB), Brennan Greer (2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 Ks), Charlie Feris (1.2 IP, 1 H), Nate Bergeron (0.1 IP, 2 ER, 1 K) and Ayden Terry (0.2 IP, 1 K) worked the reminder of the contest with Feris and Terry each facing the minimum with the former receiving a 4-3 double play in the eighth.
Juan Cantua recorded a one-out single in the fifth, stole second, advanced to third on an error and then scored on an error in Bland's at bat to tie the game at 3-3.
