SFA trailed by five runs twice, Bears steal home for lead in 8th, eventual win
Seven arms saw action against the Big 12 Bears, with Seanan Farney receiving the start. Farney fanned four, including the side in the first, but Baylor hit a pair of solo shots to take an early 2-0 lead after the home half. The Bears added three more runs in the third on a run-scoring double and a two-run home run.
The fifth inning proved profitable for the Jacks as two-out walks to Ethan Adkisson and Cooper Schneider were plated on an opposite field blast from the bat of Cermodrick Bland as SFA cut into the Baylor lead at 5-3.
Back-to-back doubles in the home half of the frame earned the previous three runs surrendered by the Bears back as Baylor carried an 8-3 lead through five innings.
The Jacks weren't through as the offensive outburst carried over into sixth inning. SFA recorded five hits in the inning and used a pair of free passes (Coby DeJesus, Adkisson) to plate five runs, all with two outs, to tie the game at 8-8. Schneider, Bland and Jhett Creel all singled with the former plating a pair, while Adkisson started the run-scoring frame by working a bases loaded walk.
Adrian Rubio kept the ballgame tied up as he tossed around a pair of one-out walks that loaded the bases to deliver a five-pitch punchout for out three in the sixth.
In the top of the eighth, Bland walked with one out, advanced to second on an HBP by Creel and stole third but was left on after the Bears turned a third double play. In the bottom half, a leadoff single was moved to second and then advanced to third on an error to put runners at the corners with just one away. The Bears' Brady Janusek then stole home to take the lead as the Jacks went down in order in the ninth.
