Jacks Overpower MVSU in Series Finale
2/15/2026 5:39:00 PM | Baseball
SFA off to 4-0 start to a season for the first time since 2010 and second such beginning since 2006
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin used a combined two-hit shutout from Nate Vidlak and Dylan Mulcahy and the Jacks punched in double-digit runs for the fourth-straight game to put the finishing touches on a high-powered opening weekend with a 10-0 win in seven over Mississippi Valley State. SFA moves to 4-0 on the season and awaits its first midweek tilt on Tuesday against Hutson Tillotson from Pilgrim's Park.
Vidlak pitched four perfect innings facing the minimum with seven strikeouts, while Mulcahy worked the final three frames allowing just two hits, while fanning five to earn the win.
Like the first three games of the series, run support for the Lumberjack pitching staff was not a problem for SFA hitters. The Jacks registered 14 hits including seven for extra bases with run-scoring doubles from Ethan Pena and Juan Cantua and an RBI triple from Rodric Black all taking place in a five-run third inning.
Highlighting the extra base hits were a pair of home runs beginning first with a 400-foot blast (EV: 104, LA: 26) off the bat of Josh Ibe, a solo shot in the home half of the first and a 368-foot exit (EV: 102, LA: 27) to right field by Cantua to lead off the bottom of the fifth.
Jackson Benattar sent the Jacks home early singling on a 1-0 pitch following the stretch to chase home Trey Acreman and put the run-rule into effect.
