Six arms hold Rams hitless, Ibe leaves yard again and Bland delivers 3R double
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Six Stephen F. Austin pitchers combined to hold Huston Tillotson hitless on Tuesday night inside Pilgrim's Park as the Jacks earned an 8-0 victory to improve to a program-best 5-0.
Seanan Farney went 3.0 innings in a starting role allowing just two free passes with five strikeouts as he faced two over the minimum before giving way to five relievers, the first of which was Gage Elliott (W, 1-0) who went 2.0 innings with two punchouts to earn the victory. Jack James, Kadin Munson, Nate Bergeron and Ayden Terry all tossed a frame with James and Terry facing the minimum.
The six arms totaled 11 punchouts and relied on a defense that recorded seven flyouts and seven groundouts with Bergeron receiving a 4-6-3 double play to end the eighth.
At the plate, the Jacks recorded eight hits with damage induced in the third, fourth and fifth innings. A third inning blast off the bat of Josh Ibe, his second of the season and first of the two-run variety, nearly went 400 feet out to left centerfield (EV: 107, LA: 22) to open scoring against the Rams.
A frame later, Cermodrick Bland doubled to clear the bases as three runs crossed to give SFA a 5-0 lead. In the fifth, Ethan Peña doubled home a run and Ethan Adkisson singled through the right side of the infield to score the former. Leading 7-0 after the stretch, a final tally was placed in the eighth as Julian Swift singled into right center to cap scoring for the night.
