NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball program finished their non-conference slate and wrapped up their second home tournament against the UTEP Miners in a Saturday afternoon matchup.
UTEP pounced on SFA early with a 3-0 run and eventually grew their lead to five, 11-6. The Ladyjacks responded with a four-point spurt that included kills from Katherine Holtman, Jordan Henderson, and Camryn Hill, 11-10. The Miners went on a 5-0 run to retake a 18-13 lead and held back the surging 'Jacks to secure a 25-22 first set victory.
The beginning of the second set was tightly contested as neither team held more than a three-point lead until UTEP went on a mini run to take a 19-14 lead. The Miners were able to once again hold off the Ladyjacks to take a 2-0 lead on a 25-21 second set win.
With the third set tied at six, SFA went on a 5-1 spurt that featured three kills from Holtman, 11-7. Later, UTEP responded with a five-point run of their own to retake a slim 15-13 lead. Both teams traded blows and four-point spurts to tie the set at 20. However, the Miners shutdown the 'Jacks comeback with a 5-2 run to end the match and secure a 25-22 third set victory.
