‘Jacks Set for Clash with Mustangs and Miners

SFA set for their first ranked matchup in Shelton Gym since 1998.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball program will close out their non-conference slate with a ranked matchup against No. 10 SMU on Thursday, September 18 and UTEP on Saturday, September 20.
WHERE TO TUNE IN
• Both of SFA's matches will be broadcasted on ESPN+ with Greg Miller and Brittany Castledine on the call.
• SMU vs UTEP on Friday at 5:00 will NOT be broadcasted, but fans can follow along with the live stats.
ABOUT THE LADYJACKS
• The 'Jacks are hosting their first ranked opponent since November 2, 1998, when No. 14 Arkansas came to the Pressure Cooker.
• Head Coach Debbie Humphreys secured her 850th career win in a five-set thriller against Abilene Christian on September 5.
• With John Cook (NEB) and Mary Wise (FLA) announcing their retirements over the summer, Coach Humphreys is now one of two active coaches in Division I to win over 800 matches and is the only active coach to win 800 at one institution. She has the second most wins among active DI coaches with 850.
SCOUTING NO. 10 SMU
• SMU comes into the Pressure Cooker with a 6-2 record and have picked up two top 25 wins against No. 20 Baylor and No. 8 Texas A&M. Their only two losses have also come to ranked teams, No. 3 Kentucky and No. 14 Purdue.
• The Mustangs are led by the dynamic duo of sophomore, Jadyn Livings who has leads the team with 131 kills (4.09 per set) and graduate student, Malaya Jones who has 111 kills (3.83 per set).
• Senior setter, Averi Carlson leads the SMU offense with 365 assists (11.41 per set). She is also ranked fourth in the nation in assists per set and total assists.
• Senior libero, Jordyn Schilling leads the back line for the Mustangs with 97 digs.
• At the net, sophomore middle blocker, Favor Anyanwu leads the block with 48 (1.50 per set). She is ranked 12th in the nation in total blocks and 15th in blocks per set.
SCOUTING UTEP
• The Miners head to Nacogdoches with an impressive 9-1 record. Their lone loss of the season came last weekend in their home tournament against No. 24 UCLA.
• Redshirt senior outside, Torrance Lovesee is the only Miner over 100 kills on the season. She has 105 kills and averages 3.18 per set.
• Junior setter Kalia Kohler leads the team with 207 assists, followed by senior setter Mattie Gantt who has 135 assists.
• Junior libero, Fuka Sekita leads the UTEP back line with 128 digs.
• Graduate middle blocker, Danika Washington leads the block for the Miners with 34 (1.03 per set).
SERIES HISTORY
• This will be the 16th All-Time meeting between the 'Jacks and Mustangs. SFA leads the series 10-5 and won the most recent matchup on August 27, 2022 in Dallas.
• Saturday will be the ninth matchup for SFA and UTEP. The Ladyjacks lead the series 5-3, but the Miners won the most recent matchup on September 7, 2024 in El Paso.
IN LIKE FLYNN
• At the Loyola Invitational, senior setter Jayden Flynn passed former teammate Maddy Bourque for eighth in All-Time Assists at SFA.
• Flynn currently has 2263 assists and is chasing Terri Sherrill who has 2431 career assists.
• Flynn also broke into the top 10 for career aces as well. She currently is tied for ninth with Stephanie Figgers at 141 aces.
RETURNEE RUNDOWN
• The 'Jacks return 84.58% of their offense and 77.24% of their defense from the 2024.
• SFA's 11 returning players accounted for 89.58% of sets played, 94.89% of kills, 72.06% of digs, 74.31% of assists, 96.72% of blocks, 78.33% of aces, and 91.36% of points scored.
• All three First Team-SLC Selections return for the 2025 season.
