Lumberjacks Fall to Bulldogs in Midweek Matchup

RUSTON, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (9-11) hopped over to Ruston for a Tuesday night matchup against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (11-9).
Brooke Gainous earned her seventh start in the circle for the 'Jacks this season and struck out two batters early in the bottom of the first. The pitcher's duel continued until the bottom of the third where the Bulldogs sent a two-run home run to straightaway center, 2-0. SFA almost responded in the top of the fourth when Adelyn Becerra scorched a ball to left field for a double, but the 'Jacks were unable to bring her in. Louisiana Tech added on another run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. SFA once again got two runners on in the top of the sixth but could not bring them home. The Bulldogs tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead and secured the win.

SFA will open up Southland Conference play on Friday, March 7th against Nicholls with a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m.
