
Lumberjack Offense Scorches Army and West Georgia with a Pair of Run-Rule Victories

YOUNGSVILLE, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (8-10) enjoyed the Youngsville Mardi Gras Parade before facing off against Army (7-6) and West Georgia (6-7) in day two of the Mardi Gras Mambo.
Game 1:
SFA got the bats going early with a leadoff single from Mikaelah Burkland who was then bunted over to second from Hope Lusk. Ellie Vance followed up with an RBI single through the left side and then stole second with Lilly Bean up to bat. Bean smacked a double to left center which drove in Vance, 2-0.
The next scores came in the top of the third after Army got two quick outs, Kelby Robbins smoked a double down the left field line that was followed up by an RBI double to right center from Gabby Coffey, 3-0. After back-to-back walks, the 'Jacks had the bases loaded with two outs. Coffey and Sydney Blakeman then scored on wild pitches, 5-0. After Jamie Varga stole second, an errant throw from the catcher to try to get Varga out gave Chloe Reneau enough time to cross home plate, 6-0. The scoring did not stop there as Burkland dropped in an RBI single to right field, 7-0. Lusk stepped up to the plate and hit a rocket to through the right side and advanced to third on the throw in from the right fielder which scored Burkland and Paul, 9-0. Finally, Vance hit an RBI single to shortstop to score the eighth run of the inning and give the 'Jacks a commanding 10-0 lead.
SFA did not take their foot off the gas as three walks loaded up the bases in the top of the fourth for Kyi'Marri Ester who stepped up and blasted a home run to left field for a 14-0 lead. Army got one run across in the bottom of the fifth, but it was too little too late as SFA secured a 14-1 win.

Game 2:
The 'Jacks carried their hot streak into game two against newly DI-minted University of West Georgia. SFA got on board in the top of the second after a leadoff triple from Bean and an RBI single from Coffey, 1-0. Coffey was able to advance to third on an error by the Wolves right fielder. Ester skied a ball to right field for a sacrifice fly to bring in Coffey, 2-0. After Army recorded an out, Varga hit a double to left center which was followed by a double to right center from Paul, 3-0. Burkland drew a walk which put runners on first and second with one out. Lusk stepped up to the plate and sent a pitch all the way out past the fences in left center for a three-run bomb to double up the 'Jacks lead, 6-0.
SFA would hold a 6-0 lead until the top of the fifth that began with a leadoff single from Varga and a walk from Paul to put runners on first and second. Burkland hit an RBI single to right field to score Varga and advance Paul to third and Burkland to second on the throw, 7-0. Lusk hit a sacrifice fly out to center field to score Paul, 8-0. Vance hit a single to shortstop that advanced Burkland to third, then Bean drew a walk to load up the bases for Coffey who also drew a walk to bring in the ninth run for the 'Jacks. The Wolves threw back-to-back wild pitches to score Vance and Camryn Milley, 11-0. After Ester walked, UWG threw another wild pitch that drove in Coffey, 12-0. Malia Jones followed up with a walk then drew the force out at second off a fielder's choice from Varga which scored Ester for the final run of the game for the 'Jacks, 13-0.
