Lumberjacks Complete Sweep of UAPB Thanks to Walkoff Walk

LUFKIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks completed a four-game sweep of the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions today, winning the final game 6-5.
The UAPB bats got going early, scoring one run in the top of the first, but the 'Jacks quickly responded in the bottom of the inning. Cooper Schneider led off the game with a walk, and River Curs doubled to put runners on second and third for Dalton Mullins. Mullins would bring Schneider home with an RBI groundout, tying the game. Dante Turgeon then smoked a double down the left field line, scoring Curs and putting the Lumberjacks in front 2-1. One batter later, Kevin Duran would bring Turgeon home with a single, making the score 3-1 Lumberjacks after one inning.
Neither team would score in the second, but UAPB would get a run back in the third with a lead-off solo home run, making the score 3-2. The Golden Lions would also score one run in the fourth and fifth to take the lead 4-3.
In the sixth, Austin Cadroy would reach on an error to begin the inning. He would then advance to third after two throwing errors by the Golden Lions, and Curs would bring him home with a single to center field, tying the game at 4.
In the seventh, UAPB would continue to fight, taking the lead on an RBI single to make the score 5-4 Golden Lions.
In the bottom of the eighth, Mullins would lead off with a single, and Josh Ibe would walk, providing a great scoring opportunity for the Lumberjacks. After a fielder's choice moved Mullins to third, he would score on a passed ball to tie the game at 5.
The Golden Lions were kept off the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth, thanks to a huge strikeout by Blaine Zeplin. In the bottom half of the inning, Mathew Reinholtz would single, and Cooper Schneider would walk to put two guys on base. River Curs would then reach on a fielder's choice, loading the bases. One batter later, Josh Ibe would work a walk-off walk, and the Lumberjacks would win, 6-5.
Blaine Zeplin (1-1) was the winning pitcher, and Lorenzo Bailey (0-1) took the loss.
