
‘Jacks Sweep Away the Privateers

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball program faced the New Orleans Privateers in the Pressure Cooker.
The crowd and band were involved early as the 'Jacks quickly got out to an 11-4 lead. Later in the set SFA went on a 5-0 spurt to double up UNO, 20-10. New Orleans won seven of the last 12 points, but it was too little too late as the 'Jacks won the first set 25-17.
Excitement filled Shelton as the 'Jacks welcomed back a familiar face to the court. Izabella Ortiz made her return to the Pressure Cooker after suffering a season ending injury last season at Southeastern Louisiana. The 'Jacks started out hot on a 5-0 run and continued the offensive dominance with a 6-0 spurt to extend their lead to 14-3. SFA secured a second set victory by a score of 25-10.
SFA kept the momentum going in the third set by jumping out to an 8-2 lead. With the 'Jacks up 10-4, Ortiz crushed a great ball from Zoe Gun to secure her first kill of the season and got the gym rocking. Two points later she did it again with a pass from Jayden Flynn, 13-5. Later the 'Jacks went on a 6-0 spurt which included two more kills from Ortiz to extend their lead to 19-8. SFA won the final four points thanks to two kills from Katherine Holtman and secured a 25-15 third set victory off a match clinching ace from Kennedy Jones.
POSTGAME NOTES
• SFA moves to a 18-3 series lead over UNO and remains a perfect 9-0 at home.
• Katherine Holtman led the team with 11 kills and hit .579 for her 11th double digit kill game this season.
• Izabella Ortiz recorded five kills and hit .625 with one block in her season debut.
• Jayden Flynn led the offense with 17 assists followed by Zoe Gun with 11.
• Six different Ladyjacks recorded an ace in the match.
• Kyanna Creecy led the team with five blocks with Jordan Henderson following closely with four.
• Camryn Hill led the back line with 15 digs followed by Luna França with 12.
