NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball program returned home to host the SFA Volleyball Invitational. SFA (6-5) opened up the tournament with Boise State (6-4) in the Pressure Cooker looking to extend the longest home winning streak in Division I to 30 games.
With the backing of an almost record-breaking crowd, the 'Jacks got off to a quick 8-1 start with two aces from Caroline Kahle, two kills from Kyanna Creecy, and one from Katherine Holtman. Boise State slowly started to chop into the SFA lead with a mini three-point run, 10-6. Later, SFA went on a five-point run which included an ace from Kahle and a setter dump kill from Jayden Flynn to extend the lead for the 'Jacks, 18-10. SFA continued their offensive dominance in the first set by winning the final three points of the set to take a 25-15 set one victory. The SFA offense was flying high as they hit .400 in the first set.
In the second set the Broncos kept it close and took their first lead of the match at 5-4. Both teams were siding out efficiently in the middle of the second set which kept the game close, but the 'Jacks held a slim 12-9 lead. SFA got into an offensive rhythm later in the set with a four-point run capped off by a kill from Holtman and an ace from Flynn, 18-13. Once again both teams struggled to hold serve, but the 'Jacks lead was able to hold the Broncos off as they won the second set by a score of 25-20. SFA's offense continued to be deadly as the 'Jacks hit .406 in the second set.
The third set was also tightly contested as neither team held more than a one-point lead until Boise went on a 4-0 run to put the Broncos up 9-6. Both teams were able to win back-to-back points on several occasions to keep the match within three points. However, SFA went on a four-point run to reclaim a slim lead, 17-16. Boise State took the lead back at 19-18, but SFA finished out the set on a 7-2 run to secure their 30th consecutive home win with a 25-21 third set victory.
