Ladyjacks Top SLC Preseason Poll; Ortiz and Joseph Named to All-SLC Second Team

FRISCO, Texas- The Southland Conference announced its Volleyball Preseason Poll and All-Conference teams Thursday morning with SFA taking the top spot in the preseason poll. The Ladyjacks received 17 first place votes and 233 total points to claim the number one spot.
In addition to the number one ranking, two Ladyjacks were named to the All-SLC Preseason Second Team. Junior, middle blocker, Izabella Ortiz and sophomore, middle blocker, Tanishua Joseph each earned a spot on the second team.
Ortiz started in all 34 matches last season totaling 268 kills, 20 aces, and 151 blocks. Her 151 blocks ranked her sixth in the nation last season. Ortiz was named to three All-Tournament teams to kick-off the 2023 season. She was also named WAC Player of the Week on two occasions and was named to the All-WAC First Team.
Joseph saw action in all 34 matches last season totaling 254 kills. She set her career high with 14 kills against Abilene Christian and recorded 16 points against Utah Tech. Joseph was named to the All-WAC Freshman Team and was nominated as Female Rookie of the Year for SFA Atheltics.
