Ladyjacks Dismantle Vaqueros in Conference Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated University of Texas Rio Grande Valley 3-0 in the WAC opener Saturday afternoon.
SFA quickly jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set fueled by a kill from Ielan Bradley and blocks by Bradley, Camryn Hill, and Alleah Dallas. The 'Jacks had another four-point run to extend their lead to 11-5. Later in the set, SFA rattled off five points in a row, including two service aces from Jayden Flynn, 18-7. SFA continued to hold their lead and finished the set on a five-point spurt to secure a 25-10 first set victory. Points were traded back and forth in the second set with neither team holding more than a two-point lead until SFA went on a mini three-point run that put them up 15-11. After that it was all SFA as the Ladyjacks had three separate three-point spurt that propelled them to a 25-18 second set victory. The third set was tightly contested in the beginning until the 'Jacks scored five in a row to take a 10-5 lead. UTRGV fought their way back and tied the game up at 13, but SFA pulled away with another five-point spurt and then a six-point run on their way to a 25-15 third set win.
SFA led UTRGV in points (58-34), kills (37-31), assists (35-24), aces (8-2), blocks (13-1), and hitting percentage (.353-.075). WAC Player of the Week, Bradley led the 'Jacks with 15 kills, followed by Tanishua Joseph who posted seven. Jayden Flynn led the team with 19 assists, followed by Maddy Bourque who recorded 12. Flynn and Camryn Hill each recorded three aces in this match. WAC Libero of the Week, Haley Hoang led the team with 11 digs, followed by Hill who recorded eight. Izabella Ortiz once again led the team with six blocks, followed by Bradley who had five.
The 'Jacks will be back at home Monday, September 25th as the Mavericks from University of Texas-Arlington come to the Pressure Cooker for a 6:00 p.m. matchup.
