NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Utah Tech Trailblazers defeated the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 3-0 at the Chopping Block Thursday evening.
The SFA Lumberjacks returned home to Nacogdoches looking to claim their first home win and snap a three-game skid. However, the Utah Tech Trailblazers had other plans as they were looking to claim their first conference win after three consecutive conference ties to open conference play. Utah Tech struck early in the first half as Ella Rusick scored in the 13th minute of the game to give Utah Tech a 1-0 lead. That score would stand at halftime as SFA and Utah Tech were even in shots at 8 apiece at halftime while SFA had five shots on goal in the first half. In the second half, Utah Tech had a pair of quick strikes to stake themselves to a 3-0 lead. Emily Garbett scored in the 66th minute, and just three minutes later Tessa Thornton would also net a goal for the Trailblazers to give the Trailblazers a commanding 3-0 lead. However, SFA followed up a solid first half with an equally impressive second half as they finished with nine shots and five more shots on goal in the second half. The 'Jacks played arguably their best offensive game this season as they finished with 17 shots and 10 shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net against Utah Tech.
Lydia Sattler recorded her third consecutive start in goal for the Lumberjacks and made five saves in 90 minutes played. Offensively, Ava Shannon, Morgan Donohue, Caelynn January, Jayme Bailey, Lily Hargrove, Mariona Garcia Dalmases, Briana Beaty, Tiana Thompson, and Jamie Ingrassia all recorded shots for SFA. Shannon, Bailey, and Garcia all recorded two shots on goal for SFA, while Beaty, Thompson, Ingrassia, and Donohue all recorded one shot on goal. Jayme Bailey put together an impressive game offensively for SFA as she had six total shots and two shots on goal in total in just 63 minutes played. Jamie Jezierski and Ella Morgan continued to be workhorses for SFA as they both played the full 90 minutes for the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks wrap up their regular season home schedule at the Chopping Block when they square off on Sunday, October 8th at 12:00 p.m. against Southern Utah for Senior Day.
