
Ladyjacks Secure 11th Consecutive Win and Stay Undefeated in Conference Play

EDINBURG, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated University of Texas Rio Grande Valley 3-1 Thursday evening in a heavyweight bout. SFA is currently first in the WAC while UTRGV holds the third spot with their only conference losses coming at the hands of the 'Jacks and the GCU Lopes.
The first set was heavily contested as neither team held more than a three-point lead the entire set. SFA took the first set after going on a 4-0 run to secure a 26-24 first set victory. Both teams had four-point runs early on in the second set, but the 'Jacks held the advantage 8-5. SFA continued to grow their lead and finished out the second set on a 7-4 run as they took the second set by a score of 25-19. In the third set, the 'Jacks jumped out to a 5-2 lead over the Vaqueros. However, UTRGV came back and tied the set up at seven and took a slight lead in the middle of the set. Points were traded back-and-forth until the Vaqueros went on a four-point spurt to take a 21-19 lead. SFA fought back and tied the game at 24 to force extras, but the Vaqueros came out on top with a 27-25 third set victory. UTRGV carried that momentum into the fourth set as they jumped out to a 7-3 lead. The Ladyjacks fought back with a five-point spurt and took a slim two-point lead, 11-9. The next five points were traded between the teams, then SFA went on another five-point run to extend their lead to 18-12. The 'Jacks continued to hold that dominating lead through the rest of the set as they won the match with a 25-17 fourth set.
SFA led UTRGV in points (79-66), kills (58-52), aces (7-5), blocks (14-9), assists (53-50), and hitting percentage (.339-.196). WAC Player of the Week, Ielan Bradley led the offensive charge for the 'Jacks with 15 kills, followed by 10 from Izabella Ortiz and nine errorless kills from Ariana Pagan. Jayden Flynn led the team with 27 assists, followed by Maddy Bourque who recorded 24. Flynn also led the team with four aces which ties her season high. Freshman Kyanna Creecy led the 'Jacks defense with six blocks, followed by Bradley and Ortiz who each recorded five. Haley Hoang led the 'Jacks with 15 digs, followed by Camryn Hill who recorded 10.
SFA will hit the road to Arlington for a matchup with the UT-Arlington Mavericks on Monday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m.
