Ladyjacks Extend Win Streak to 12 After Defeating Mavericks in Four

ARLINGTON, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated University of Texas at Arlington 3-1 Monday night. The 'Jacks remain undefeated in WAC play and are riding a 12-game win streak.
UTA showed their muscle early in the first set as they jumped out to a 6-3 lead. SFA went on a three-point spurt to tie the set up at seven. The rest of the set was tightly contested as neither team held more than a three-point lead. SFA was able to hold serve at the end of the set and pull away with a 25-23 first set victory. Points were traded back-and-forth at the beginning of set two, but the 'Jacks went on a 5-0 run fueled by two kills from Ielan Bradley, two from Camryn Hill and one from Ariana Pagan to take a 13-11 lead. SFA continued to hold their lead from that point on in the set as they secured a 25-22 second set victory. The back-and-forth trend continued into the third set until UTA rattled off four points to extend their lead to 11-7, but the 'Jacks went on a three-point run of their own to cut the deficit down to one, 11-10. Each team had two separate three-point spurts late in the set, but UTA ended the third set on a four-point run as they took set three by a score of 25-20. UTA came out with a renewed fire in the fourth set as they jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but SFA would not go down without a fight as they went on a 7-0 spurt to take an 8-6 lead. The remainder of the fourth set was tight until the end of the set where the 'Jacks won five of the last six points as they cruised to a 25-20 fourth set victory and secured their 12th win in conference play.
SFA led UTA in points (78-63), kills (59-50), aces (9-7), blocks (10-6), assists (56-47), and hitting percentage (.247-.206). Four Ladyjacks recorded double-digit kills led by Bradley who recorded 13, followed by Hill who recorded 11 and Izabella Ortiz and Kyanna Creecy who each recorded 10. Creecy's 10 kills is a new career-high in her young career as a Ladyjack. Jayden Flynn led SFA with 31 assists, followed by Maddy Bourque who recorded 20 assists. Haley Hoang led the team with 14 digs, followed by Hill who notched her fourth double-double of the season with 10 digs. Ortiz continued her dominance at the net adding six blocks to her incredible total for the season. Ortiz was followed by the freshman duo of Creecy and Tanishua Joseph who recorded four and three blocks respectively.
The Ladyjacks will be back in Shelton Gym for their final two home matches of the 2023 season. SFA will play the Seattle Redhawks on Thursday, November 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
