9/25/2022 5:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated New Mexico State, 2-1 Sunday afternoon and picked up their second straight conference win. SFA improves to 3-7-1 (2-2 WAC) while NMSU falls to 4-3-3 (1-1-2 WAC).
The first ten minutes of the game were evenly matched. After ten minutes of game play the momentum started to shift the Ladyjacks way as Jayme Bailey was able to strike first after getting the ball from Morgan Donohue. Bailey spun passed an Aggie defender and took a shot from outside the 18-yard box that sailed into the upper left corner past the diving goalkeeper. SFA held the lead until the 72nd minute when NMSU tied the game up. A free kick was awarded to the Ladyjacks in the 83rd minute after Thalia Chaverria fouled Carly Wyatt just outside of the 18-yard box. Reganne Crane took the free kick that hit off of a defender for NMSU and got past the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper to give SFA the lead, 2-1.
Bailey and Crane both got their second goals of the season, and Donohue recorded her second assist of the year. Crane led the team with three shots on goal followed by Bailey who had two. Bailey edged ahead of Crane with six shots during this game while Crane had five. Goalkeeper Lydia Sattler recorded seven saves against the Aggies. SFA led NMSU in shots 21-20, but the teams were even in saves (7) and corner kicks (5).
The Ladyjacks will head into their bye week on a two-game winning streak and will look to keep that up October 7th at 7 p.m. when California Baptist comes to town.
