NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head volleyball coach Debbie Humphreys is pleased to announce the promotion of Evan Amstutz to Associate Head Coach.
Amstutz joined the staff in July of 2020, and has proven to be a valuable asset in all aspects of the program. He is heavily involved in recruiting, match prep, statistical analysis and player development.
"Evan shares my vision for how we want to keep the SFA Volleyball program moving forward. We are both passionate about the sport and believe that relationship building is a key piece to our success," Humphreys said. "While we share common goals, we have very different strengths & weaknesses which is important to me when building a staff. Evan has proven himself to be a tireless worker, loyal and passionate about SFA. I'm excited to have him in the role of Associate Head Coach."
Amstutz is excited to continue with the Ladyjacks in his new role.
"It has been an honor to work with Debbie Humphreys for the last two seasons. I have truly enjoyed being even a small part of this team's journey and continue to be excited for what is in store for them in the future, "Amstutz said. "This group exemplifies the qualities of the culture that Coach Humphreys has worked tirelessly to create, and I am beyond appreciative for my chance to serve each one of them. The future could not be brighter here for SFA Volleyball - Go Jacks!"
Prior to SFA, Amstutz coached at Angelo State for two seasons. As an assistant coach for the Belles, Amstutz helped guide the squad to a 51-13 record and a 2019 Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship. He also helped mentor four All-Americans and twelve All-Conference student-athletes at ASU. Prior to his time at Angelo State, Amstutz was an assistant coach at Division-II Urbana University in Ohio in 2017, where the Blue Knights finished in third place in the Mountain East Conference and advanced to the MEC tournament semifinals
Amstutz served as Head Men's Volleyball coach at his alma mater, Wittenberg University, and launched the school's Division III men's volleyball program for two years before leaving to work as the assistant at Urbana. In 2016, Amstutz was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association "Thirty Under 30" list, which honors up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of volleyball.
In addition to his collegiate coaching, Amstutz had the opportunity to serve as the head coach for the Lone Star High Performance team that competed in the High Performance Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida during the summer of 2019. His team earned a spot on the podium with a silver medal.
He currently resides in Nacogdoches with his wife, Molly, and his daughter, Charlotte.
