
SFA Sweeps Sam Houston

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin extended its winning streak to eight in a row and completed the series sweep of rival Sam Houston with a 10-6 win.
SFA improved to 18-16 overall and 10-2 in WAC play, while Sam Houston fell to 10-27 and 4-8 in conference action.
The Ladyjacks used a four-run second inning to seize control.
Emily Berryhill delivered an RBI single to left field to score the first run. Gaby Garcia then came through with a bases-clearing double to center field and the Ladyjacks led 4-1.
The Ladyjacks then played with the long ball the rest of the game.
Mackenzie Bennett drilled a solo home run in the third inning, Garcia popped a two-run home run in the fourth inning and Sydnee Hebert added a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
Garcia batted 2-for-4 with five RBI, while Bennett finished 3-for-4 with one RBI.
As a team, the Ladyjacks added 10 hits.
Brooke Gainous started in the circle and was credited with the no-decision. Gainous tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits, four runs and no walks and fanned four batters.
Kassidy Wilbur entered in relief and earned the win. Wilbur threw 3 2/3 innings and allowed two hits, two runs and one walk and fanned a batter.
The Ladyjacks take a brief break from conference play and are set for three non-conference road gamed at Texas Southern, Louisiana Tech, and North Texas.
