Ladyjack’s Mitchell and Rosado Earn WAC Player of the Week Honors

DENVER, CO – Senior middle blocker Taya Mitchell and freshman Valeria Rosado have been named the league's Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, per a release from the league office on Monday morning. Both players made significant contributions in a pair of Ladyjack victories, including a win in the program's first ever WAC match.
Mitchell was a dominant defensive presence for the Ladyjacks this week when they needed it most. She posted three blocks, four digs and a kill in Tuesday's tune-up win over Prairie View A&M, but saved her best for Saturday's WAC opener against UTRGV. The 5-11 middle blocker posted a career-high 11 blocks in SFA's 3-1 victory, giving her a 2.33 blocks per set average for the week. She also chipped in five kills and three digs in the match.
Rosado also shined this week in SFA's two matches, beginning with her first career double-double in Tuesday's win, as she notched 11 kills and 10 digs against the Panthers while hitting .647. Keeping the momentum going, Rosado turned in another 11-kill performance against UTRGV on Saturday, chipping in eight digs, two service aces and two blocks as well. Rosado hit .385 overall on the week, averaging 3.14 kills per set and 3.9 points per set.
