Mitchell, Miller and Powell Collect All-Southland Conference Accolades

The Southland Conference regular season champions earned three spots on the All-Southland Conference selection tab, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Taya Mitchell received First Team honors for the second consecutive season, along with Madelynn Miller and Leah Powell making an appearance on the Second Team.
Madelynn Miller (Sr., Libero, Lorena, TX)
Miller has been a steady presence in the back row for two years, and has taken the lead in helping a young team find success. She racked up 234 digs in conference play this season (5.44 per set) finishing with 534 career digs in Southland Conference play. She is ranked No. 3 in all of NCAA Division I in total digs this season with 512.
Not only has Miller been able to deliver in the back row, she has been a consistently talented server racking up 91 aces in her career. This year, she is currently tied for 11th in the nation in total service aces with 33, 10 in conference play. Her career-high six aces at Abilene Christian comprise the highest total in the Southland Conference this year.
Miller was an All-Southland Conference Second Team selection in 2019 and a 1st Team Preseason conference pick in 2021. She also earned a spot on the All-Academic Team last season. She was named Defensive Player of the Week twice in her career.
Taya Mitchell (Sr., Middle Blocker, Rowlett, TX)
Mitchell has taken a larger offensive role this season, and has become a role model for younger Ladyjack middle blockers. She finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in SLC in hitting percentage (.411) with 89 kills, notching a career-high at Texas A&M Corpus Christi (14-24, .542).
She wrapped up the regular season with 46 blocks in conference play, including four games with at least four block assists, and two games with two solo blocks. To add to her defensive abilities, she compiled four games with at least three digs, and one game with six at McNeese. She was also an All-Southland Conference Preseason 1st Team pick in 2021.
Leah Powell (Fr., Outside Hitter, Copperas Cove, TX)
Powell has been a standout outside hitter for SFA as a freshman, leading her team in total kills during SLC play with 107 (2.55 per set) on a .247 hitting percentage. She notched four games with 10+ kills in SLC contests and three games with at least eight, accomplishing a career-high 14.5 points against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and seven digs at Abilene Christian. Collectively this season, Powell compiled 243 kills and 264 points, both good for second on the team.
