Complete AVCA Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. - After posting a nearly flawless run through its regular season non-conference schedule, the SFA volleyball team has now been recognized as one of the top teams in the nation.
In the latest edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division I poll released Monday afternoon, the Ladyjacks were listed among the teams receiving multiple votes in the weekly listing. SFA received three votes in the poll which marked the first time in the history of the program the Ladyjacks found themselves in the receiving votes section of the poll.
The Ladyjacks' record currently stands at 12-1 and they are one of four programs from the state of Texas who were listed in the latest version of the poll. SFA joins second-ranked Baylor, sixth-ranked Texas and 22nd-ranked Rice as the teams from the Lone Star State in the poll. As a matter of fact, the Ladyjacks are the only team so far this year who have defeated Rice who stands at 11-1 following a five-set victory over Texas last week.
Thursday night inside Shelton Gym, the two-time defending Southland Conference champions open up their league slate by hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m. The Ladyjacks' showdown with the Islanders is their first of two Southland matches this weekend in Nacogdoches as SFA will also host Incarnate Word at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
