Game is called in bottom of the fourth with Panthers leading 5-0
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Due to numerous lightning strikes and rainy conditions in and around the area, the non-conference baseball game between SFA and Prairie View A&M was declared a no contest Wednesday night.
At the time of the stoppage, Prairie View A&M held a 5-0 lead over SFA in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Panthers scored three in the first and two more in the second before a one-hour lightning delay brought the game to a halt for the first time.
After the Panthers' set of at-bats in the top of the fourth, another lightning strike in close proximity to Jaycees Field coupled with heavy rain officially signaled the end of the game. No statistics or results from the game will go on either team's record.
SFA now turns its attention to a Southland Conference series with longtime Louisiana adversary Northwestern State which is set to begin Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. from Jaycees Field. SFA currently sits in a tie for fourth place in the Southland Conference standings and is just one-and-a-half games back of first place.
