Track and Field Opens Competition at 2019 Southland Conference Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the SFA Track and Field team, a season's worth of preparation has paved the way for big things at this weekend's Southland Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. The two day event held at the Birmingham Crossplex will bring the league's indoor season to a head and crown both a men's and women's indoor champion.

A total of 55 athletes from SFA's team will make the trip as the 'Jacks try for their first indoor titles since the 2014-15 season, when the men and women both brought home the title. Last season, the Lumberjacks would finish as runners-up, while the women took third place.

Using the season's individual successes as a barometer, the potential for success is high for SFA. The 'Jacks broke a plethora of school records in the indoor season, saw eight athletes named Southland Conference Athletes of the Week, and earned attention on the national stage as well.

Competition at this weekend's meet begins on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m with the heptathlon and pentathlon competition, and carries on throughout the day. Monday will feature the finals of most of the running events as well as the finals for several field events and the completion of the heptathlon.
