
Jacks Sweep 10K Titles, Mitchell, Pavan Lead Multis After SLC Day One

SFA women lead field with 34.5 points, SFA men in second and trailing A&M-CC by two points
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin swept the 10K titles to conclude opening day action at the 2026 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships and a pair of multi athletes lead at the halfway point as the SFA women lead the field with 34.5 total points, while the SFA men trail Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by two points following Thursday's championship slate from inside Homer Bryce Stadium.
Valentine Jemutai (35:12.92) won the women's 10K for the second-straight season, Mercy Kipchumba (36:09.89) followed with a fourth-place finish and Sharon Boyani (38:27.60) finished eighth as the Jacks totaled 16 points in the event.
On the men's side, Paul Kiprotich (31:02.47) and Ryan Binskin (31:04.08) went 1-2 and Lathan Lewter (31:20.90) recorded a fourth-place finish. The Jacks totaled 26 points in the event as Sam Golla (31:39.17) and Japhet Kemei (31:40.56) finished seventh and eighth.
THURSDAY MULTI
Pavan totaled 3882 points over five Thursday events to lead Incarnate Word's Gabriel Grebet by 11 points entering Friday. Four top three finishes aided Pavan's top score at the halfway point. He won the shot put (14.68m), finished second in the 100m (11.00) and posted third-place results in the long jump (6.93m) and high jump (1.88m), before finishing seventh in the 400m (51.25).
Ayden Colbert is just 33 points back of a potential point-scoring placement as his Thursday was powered by a second place showing in the high jump (1.91m).
Mitchell leads the heptathlon field by 32 points with teammate Alana Rouquette in fourth place with 3085 points. Mitchell's opening day of action included a first-place result in the shot put (12.90m) and podium finishes in the 100mH (2nd; 13.70) and 200m (3rd; 24.64). She placed fifth in the high jump (1.61m). For Rouquette, a fifth-place finish in the 100mH (14.34) as well as an 800+ point grab in the 200m has her just 59 points back of the podium.
THURSDAY FIELD
Tynslee Richards picked up a key point for the SFA women in the hammer event with an eighth-place finish of 49.14m which stands as a new personal best for the sophomore.
The Jacks placed three athletes in point-scoring finishes in the women's pole vault as Annalee Gardner led with a fourth-place result (3.77m), Aubrey Griffin followed in sixth place (3.67m) and Christine Schick placed tied for seventh (3.67m).
In the men's hammer, the Jacks received points from Victor Ramos' fourth-place effort of 57.79m and Kason Reed's seventh-place result in 56.18m.
Mitchell grabbed the silver medal in the long jump (6.07m) to earn eight points for the SFA women.
SATURDAY QUALIFYING
Three SFA women qualified for the women's 1500m. Evaline Chepkoech, Miranda Duran and Trude Lamb will compete for the podium with third, fifth and ninth place efforts, respectively, in the prelims.
Riley Elliott posted the fastest 1500m preliminary time at 3:53.82 to lead teammates Robert Fulle and Bennett Meyer-Wills into Saturday's championship event. Fulle placed third (3:54.32) and Meyer-Wills finished fourth (3:54.57).
Jarvis Anderson sped to the second fastest preliminary time in the men's 400mH with a time of 51.19. Jada Gibson posted a time of 23.84 to qualify in the women's 200m.
Multi events conclude on Friday with the men's 110mH up first at 9:30 a.m. The men's long jump opens field event action on day two with a 12:30 p.m. start and the trials of the women's 100mH prompts evening running at 5 p.m. Fans can follow the day's running action on ESPN+.
