Freshman totals three of SFA's eight hits against Shockers
ARLINGTON, Texas - Junior Sean Moore handed the SFA baseball team a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, but from then on it was all Wichita State as the Shockers racked up 18 runs on 17 hits and a trio of SFA errors in the 'Jacks' 18-2 non-conference setback Saturday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.
SCORING SUMMARY
B1 | Two of the 'Jacks' eight hits in the game came in the first as Brandon Uhse led off the frame with a single before Moore's RBI single handed SFA its lone lead of the game.
T2 | On the second pitch of the inning, Wichita State tied things up as Mason O'Brien smacked a solo homer off of Joseph Sgambelluri. That long ball represented one of the four runs the Shockers scored in the frame to take the lead for good. Three of those runs came with two outs and Jordan Boyer handed Wichita State the lead with a two-run single before Luke Ritter made it 4-1 with an RBI infield single.
T4 | Sgambelluri kept the Shockers off the board until the fourth when he gave up back-to-back one-out singles to Wichita State. After that, the junior pegged consecutive Shocker batters to push another run across. Wichita State upped its lead to 6-1 with a sacrifice fly before the inning concluded.
T5 | One of SFA's three errors helped the Shockers score one in the fifth. Jake Plastiak turned a leadoff single into a run by advancing to second on a miscue by SFA reliever Cully Mangus. Two wild pitches later, Plastiak crossed home plate and upped Wichita State's lead to 6-1.
B5 | Jared Martin pulled SFA within five runs of the Shockers with a two-out RBI single to left that scored Uhse.
T6 | O'Brien struck again for the Shockers, driving in two with a double before Hunter Gibson capped Wichita State's four-run frame with a two-run single off of Mangus. That single pushed the Shocker's lead to 11-2.
T7 | An RBI single, another SFA error and a sacrifice fly helped the Shockers put a three-spot on the board in the seventh as Wichita State's lead grew to 14-2.
T8 | Making it five consecutive innings with a run, Wichita State added two more in the eighth on yet another sacrifice fly followed by a two-out RBI double off the stick of Noah Croft.
T9 | Wichita State closed the scoring in the top of the ninth by receiving an RBI single from Ritter as well as an RBI fielder's choice ball by Brady Slavens.
