LEADOFF HITS
• In its lone showdown against an SEC adversary in the 2019 regular season, the SFA baseball team travels southwest to College Station, Texas, for a Tuesday evening tilt with Texas A&M. Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park serves as the site of the 27th meeting between the 'Jacks and Aggies and the matchup is set to be televised nationally on SEC Network+ which is an online-only streaming service
• Freshman outfielder Brandon Uhse started his collegiate career with a bang last weekend, racking up five of the 'Jacks' 23 hits in their season-opening series against Arkansas State. Uhse, a product of Grand Prairie, Texas, has turned in a slash line of .556/.667/.667 so far this season and his batting average is currently the fourth-highest in the Southland.
• Uhse and senior catcher Jarrod Huber represent two of the top-ten players in terms of on-base percentage in the Southland. Uhse's mark of .667 is tied for the fourth-highest in the league while Huber's .600 OBP is the sixth-best.
• Jordan Monacy, Manny Vasquez and Uhse each had at least one hit in each of the 'Jacks' three games against Arkansas State last weekend. Of those three, it's Vasquez who currently owns the lengthiest hit streak on the team as the senior has recorded a hit in each of his last four games.
• Just 11 Southland Conference pitchers have fired five or more innings this season and possess a 0.00 ERA. Among those 11 is SFA freshman left-hander Jaxon Covington who made his collegiate debut Sunday and retired the first 12 batters he faced. The Center, Texas, product went five innings in SFA's series finale with the Red Wolves and did not give up an earned run.
• Two-out hitting was a strength for SFA in its series with Arkansas State last weekend. Of the 12 runs the 'Jacks scored in the three-game set, seven of them (58.3-percent) were scored with two outs.
• In Saturday's setback to Arkansas State, relief pitcher Austin Roth came on and tossed the final four innings for SFA. In that span, he struck out eight batters which stands as both a career-high and the most by an SFA pitcher this season. Roth's eight strikeouts are the third-most by any Southland Conference arm so far this season and were the most by a Lumberjack pitcher in a single game since April 21, 2017, when Patrick Ledet fanned nine at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
