SFA suffers third-straight loss
SAN MARCOS, Texas - The SFA tennis team suffered a 7-0 non-conference loss at Texas State Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. With the setback, the Ladyjacks dip to 2-3 on the year while Texas State move to 3-4.
On the top doubles line, Gabi Guilarte and Kaja Ljubic found themselves locked in a battle with Texas State's Ana Perez and Julia Navajo-Melendez. Trailing the Bobcat duo 6-5, that match was left unfinished after the host squad claimed wins of 6-3 on the number two line and 6-1 on line three to clinch the doubles point.
Ljubic battled Josefina Cassara valiantly in the opening set of the fourth-line singles match, but fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in the closest singles result of the afternoon for SFA. Cerdan won seven total games against Navajo-Melendez before falling 6-4, 6-3. No other SFA player won over four singles games in their respective matches.
On Tuesday, February 26, the Ladyjacks are set to make their 2019 home debut. At 1:00 p.m. that day, SFA welcomes Louisiana-Monroe to the Schlief Tennis Complex for a non-conference showdown.
