
Guilarte, Kamal and Tiboldi Notch Singles Wins against New Orleans

Ladyjacks make 2019 home debut Friday
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In its home opener, the SFA tennis team won three of the six singles matches but ultimately fell 4-3 to Southland Conference foe New Orleans Friday afternoon at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
DOUBLES
• UNO won all three doubles flights to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
• SFA's second-flight tandem of Nida Kamal and Vera Carvalho took four games from the Privateers' pairing of Brittany Johnson and Salma Abdelrahim. Carvalho and Kamal ultimately lost, 6-4.
• Additionally, Armelle Cerdan and Darinka Tiboldi played it close with New Orleans' third-flight doubles team of Lea Alguacil and Claudette Gilhespie as the Ladyjacks lost 6-4.
SINGLES
• Putting up a valiant fight in the one-on-one matches, the Ladyjacks battled tooth and nail against the Privateers to try and secure their first Southland Conference win of the season.
• The Ladyjacks' top two singles players each won their matches to give the home team a chance. After going up 1-0 against Dao on the top line with a 6-4 win, Guilarte dropped set two 6-4 but came back to win the match with a 6-0 triumph in the third and final set.
• Tiboldi made short work of Vullings on the number two line, posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory to hand SFA another singles triumph.
• On the fifth line, Kamal took a 1-0 lead thanks to her 6-2 set one win over Mar Gendra, but the UNO player tied things at 1-1 with a 7-5 victory in the middle set. Kamal, however, had the last
laugh, posting a 10-7 win in the third and final set.
• Cerdan took a total of seven games from Abdelrahim in fourth-flight action, but UNO took that flight 6-3, 6-4.
• In the number-three slot, Ljubic gave Gilhespie all she had before falling 7-6 (4), 6-2.
• Carvalho took on Alguacil on the number-six line but fell 6-4, 6-2.
COMING UP NEXT
• Due to forecasted heavy rain in the area on Sunday, the Ladyjacks have agreed to move their regularly scheduled Southland Conference match against Nicholls to Saturday at 1:00 p.m. First serve is set to occur at the Schlief Tennis Complex on the campus of SFA.
