
SFA Track and Field Team Set to Compete in NCAA West Regional Meet

SACRAMENTO, CA – A qualifying contingent of 12 track and field athletes—nine men and three women—will take part in the NCAA West Regional meet this weekend, hosted by the Sacramento Sports Commission, Sacramento and California State University. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday and carry over into Saturday, and those who qualify will advance to the NCAA championship meet in Eugene, Oregon during the first week of June.
A live stream of the event will be available on FloTrack.org, requiring viewers to subscribe before viewing. Meet results will be posted online at ncaa.org (link above), along with meet info, athlete lists and start lists.
SFA's group is a mix of sprints and field events, along with the men's 4x100 relay team. Aaron Piper (4x100, 100m), Tedrick Hawkins (4x100), Jake Rippy (4x100), Isaiah Pittman (4x100, triple jump), Kerry Gleason (110m & 400m hurdles), Drake Murphy (800m) and Dominique Jackson (400m hurdles) round out the SFA runners. Cord Neal will be competing in the javelin throw, while Chad Horstmann, Kaylee Bizzell and Dakota Mayr will each compete in the pole vault for the 'Jacks. Isaiah Pittman and Denzel Green will compete in the triple jump and long jump, respectively.
The athletes competing for SFA this weekend were some of the top performers for the team at the 2018 Southland Conference Outdoor Championship, with a total of 11 All-Conference accolades and two individual champions in Bizzell and Gleason.
The meet is scheduled to begin on Thursday with a noon (Pacific time) start for the throwing events. Running events will start up at 4:30 p.m., beginning with the 400m hurdle preliminaries. Friday's competition will resume at noon with the discus, followed by running events at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's final day of competition will begin at noon and continue through to 9:45 p.m., where the meet will conclude with the women's 4x400 relay.
