
SFA Men Repeat as Outdoor Champs, SFA Women Finish Third

Kiprotich, Chepkoech named Newcomers of the Year; Hansen honored as Men’s Coach of the Year
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the second-consecutive season, the Stephen F. Austin men's track & field claimed the Southland Conference outdoor title after registering 164 points to best the 12-team field on Championship Saturday inside Homer Bryce Stadium. The SFA women earned a third-place finish with 122 total points. Both teams were powered by Newcomer of the Year performances from Paul Kiprotich and Evaline Chepkoech, while Rob Hansen was named the men's coach of the year for the second-straight season.
The SFA secured a second title in the 5000m as the Jacks went 1-2-3-8 to score 25 points. Paul Kiprotich won for the second time during the championships with a first-place time of 14:22.63. Ryan Binskin placed second at 14:23.26 and Lathan Lewter claimed third at 14:31.12. Devon Judelson grabbed the last point with a time of 14:45.48.
Evaline Chepkoech set a new SLC Championship Meet record of 4:10.82 in the women's 1500m which betters her program record by six seconds. She wasn't done there either as her time of 2:09.92 placed her atop the podium for a second time on Saturday.
Jarvis Anderson became the first Lumberjack ever to dip below 50 seconds in the men's 400mH as his time of 49.98 bested the field as he won the event for a second-straight year.
Brayden Hill stood atop the podium of the men's pole vault with a mark of 5.22m which lands him tenth on the all-time list.
Bryson Williams claimed the triple jump crown for the second-straight season with the fifth-longest jump in outdoor program history and a new personal-best mark in the event at 15.99m.
SATURDAY FIELD
Jarvis Anderson added another three points in the triple jump with sixth-place result at 14.69m.
Hill was joined by point-scoring finishers Garrett Savage who placed fifth at 4.92m and Samuel Pavan in seventh place at 4.77m.
In the women's discus, Tynslee Richards added two points with a 47.61m effort which moves her into sixth place on the all-time list.
Hunter Murphy earned the silver medal in the men's high jump clearing 2.11m and Rance Berney added the final two points of the ten-point effort by the SFA men in the event with a seventh-place finish at 2.05m.
Abbigail Hirth added a half point for the SFA women in the high jump with a mark of 1.63m that tied her for eighth place.
SATURDAY TRACK
The Jacks put together a hot start to Saturday's running events as the women's 4x100 relay team of Timiejha Furlow, Jada Gibson, Kennedy Swann and Whitnee Teagle blazed to a program record time of 44.88 to finish second and grab eight points to kick off the final section of championship events.
The SFA men's 4x100 relay squad of Perry Watkins, Mike Thomas Jr., Johnny Banks III and Darryl George Jr. placed sixth at 41.08 to earn three points.
Trude Lamb followed Chepkoech in the women's 1500m with a fifth-place finish in 4:29.09 to claim four points. It is the third fastest 1500m time in program history.
In the men's 1500m, the Jacks collected nine points with Pablo Lesarri (3:50.49), Riley Elliott (3:50.56) and Robert Fulle (3:51.30) placing fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Basia Mitchell's 13.58 100mH time placed her fourth as she added five more points to her personal weekend total. It is the fourth-fastest 100mH time in outdoor program history.
Swann and Furlow combined for eight points in the women's 100m final. Swann finished with a fourth-place time of 11.56 and Furlow finished in 11.66 to place sixth.
Lauren Creaby added two points in the women's 800m with a seventh-place time of 2:15.20. On the men's side, Keyshawn Garcia was just edged for the top spot finishing second at 1:51.54. Pablo Lesarri added a single point with a time of 1:55.24.
Jada Gibson ran the program's seventh-fastest time in the 200m at 23.85 and placed seventh in the event.
The SFA women scored 14 points in the women's 5000m as Valentine Jemutai paced the group with a second-place finish at 16:41.55. Mercy Kipchumba finished sixth at 17:14.86, Trude Lamb placed seventh at 17:24.05 and Miranda Duran was eighth at 17:29.22.
The SFA men capped their title with five extra points in the men's 4x400 relay as Mason Roseboro, Keyshawn Garcia, Mike Thomas Jr. and Jarvis Anderson sped to a fourth-place finish in 3:11.02.
