SACRAMENTO, CA -- A pair of SFA track and field athletes qualified for the quarterfinals of competition in the opening day of the NCAA Division I West Regional hosted in Sacramento, California on Thursday. Dominique Jackson and Drake Murphy both qualified for the next round of competition in the 400m hurdles and 800m run, respectively, headlining a group of six 'Jacks that competed on the day.
Jackson, a junior, ran to a mark of 59.23 in the 400m hurdles to finish 22nd overall and second in her heat, advancing to Friday's quarterfinal. Jackson will next race in the 400m hurdle quarterfinals at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
Murphy ran to a 17th place mark in the men's 800m, running to a mark of 1:50.39 to qualify based on time. Murphy will compete in the quarterfinal for the men's 800m at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Also competing for SFA on the day were Kerry Gleason in the 400m hurdles (25th, 51.64), Aaron Piper in the 100m (27th, 10.45), Denzel Green in the long jump (38th, 7.14m) and Chad Horstmann in the pole vault (26th, 5.00m).
SFA resumes competition tomorrow afternoon, beginning with Gleason in the 110m hurdles and the duo of Dakota Mayr and Kaylee Bizzell in the pole vault, both at 4:30 p.m.
