Complete Southland Conference Release
FRISCO, Texas - Monday afternoon, the 2018 All-Southland Conference baseball teams were released and a pair of SFA players found themselves on the receiving end of all-league recognition for their contributions on the diamond.
Junior third baseman Jake Georgiades secured a spot on the All-Southland Conference third team while sophomore Josh Campbell earned All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention accolades as a utility player.
Through his inaugural season in an SFA uniform, Georgiades went from a reserve infielder to the team's starting third baseman while also wielding the best bat in the 'Jacks' lineup. Out of College Station, Texas, Georgiades batted .333/.423/.395 and topped SFA's leaderboard in batting average, on-base percentage and walks drawn (27).
Among Southland Conference players, Georgiades ranked 12th in batting average, 14th in on-base percentage and 18th in total walks drawn. It was in the final 15 games of the 'Jacks' season, however, where Georgiades really began to increase his numbers across the board. In that time, he batted .411/.455/.518 with 23 of his 54 hits and 13 of his 23 RBI on the year.
With games played at second base, third base, designated hitter and in the outfield, Campbell distinguished himself as perhaps SFA's most versatile player through his second year in purple and white. Through his 46 games played - 37 of which were starts - the native of Angleton, Texas, batted .313/.409/.412 with 41 hits and 22 RBI.
Much like Georgiades, Campbell really came on at the end of the season by posting a team-leading slash line of .486/.556/.649 through the 'Jacks' final 11 games. The sophomore struck for 18 of his hits through that span.
The 'Jacks went 17-36 in 2018 and missed the cut for the Southland Conference Tournament for the first time since 2015.
