
SFA Excels at SHSU Spring Tournament, Preps for Top-Flight Competition at F.A.S.T. Collegiate Invite

Ladyjacks take on Texas Southern, Louisiana, Texas and Houston in Houston on Saturday
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In their second spring tournament of 2018, the Stephen F. Austin volleyball team headed to Sam Houston State last Saturday (April 7) and fared extremely well in its four matches.
The Ladyjacks posted a perfect 4-0 record in Huntsville, sweeping Sam Houston State, Texas Southern, Panola College and Lee College to finish up their second of four spring competition dates. This Saturday (April 14), SFA takes another short trip south to Houston, Texas, where it will take part in the F.A.S.T College Tournament hosted at the FAST Complex.
Including the Ladyjacks, 17 teams are set to take part in the day-long event and among the competing squads are Baylor, Houston, LSU, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, Northwestern State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Southern, Tulane and UTSA.
In total, SFA will take on four teams at the F.A.S.T College Tournament beginning with a 10:00 a.m., matchup with SWAC foe Texas Southern on court seven. At 11:00 a.m., the Ladyjacks battle Louisiana on court one.
The afternoon session of the event pits the Ladyjacks against Texas on court five at 1:00 p.m., before SFA finishes its four-match slate with a showdown against Houston at 3:00 p.m.
Admission to Saturday's event has been set at $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Cash is the only form of payment that will be accepted. Additional information including a full schedule for the F.A.S.T College Tournament can be found at the www.fastcomplex.com.
Following their matches at the F.A.S.T College Tournament, the Ladyjacks close their spring season at Shelton Gym on Saturday, April 28. More information regarding SFA's home tournament that day will be made available the week of the competition.
The Ladyjacks are coming off a 2017 campaign in which they won the Southland Conference regular season title in order to earn the top overall seed for the Southland Conference Tournament. SFA returned to postseason play for the first time since 2006, too, when they were selected as one of the 32 teams that comprised the field for the 2017 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) following the conclusion of the Southland Conference Tournament.
Included among the 14 letterwinners who return for SFA for its 2018 campaign are reigning All-Southland Conference First Team choices Haley Coleman and Danae Daron, 2017 All-Southland Conference Second Team pick Makenzee Hanna as well as 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honoree Ann Hollas.
